The Principle Behind EMFR
At the heart of every Wipotec Weigh Cell lies the principle of Electro-Magnetic Force Restoration (EMFR), a modern refinement of the classic beam balance. The system integrates a position indicator, controller, and an electro-magnetic drive (coil plus permanent magnet).
When weight is applied, the balance attempts to move—but a correcting current proportional to the force is directed through the coil to hold it in place. This exact current is then digitized, producing the precise weight value for further processing.
High Throughput and Exceptional Precision
EMFR technology enables fast settling times, high resolution, and repeatability unmatched by conventional strain-gauge cells. Since no springs or mechanical wear parts are involved, EMFR cells are ideal for dynamic weighing applications.
This allows extremely short product gaps and dramatically higher throughput—making them the standard in high-speed catchweighers that process thousands of parcels per hour without sacrificing accuracy.
Active Vibration Compensation (AVC)
Dynamic production lines often create vibrations that compromise measurement. With Active Vibration Compensation (AVC), Wipotec neutralizes these disturbances at the source. Using dual-cell measurement and sensor-based correction, AVC filters out impulse forces and recurring vibrations from drive units or conveyor systems.
The result: stable accuracy even on vibrating platforms, without the need for separate scale bases. This not only ensures reliability but also enables more compact and cost-efficient system designs.
The Monoblock Advantage
Every Wipotec Weigh Cell begins as a CNC-machined aluminum monoblock. This single-piece construction guarantees structural rigidity, long-term stability, and consistent accuracy. By eliminating assembly tolerances and weak points, the monoblock provides the ideal foundation for precision weighing.
Real-World Impact of EMFR
- In logistics hubs, EMFR-based catchweighers process thousands of parcels per hour with uncompromising accuracy—critical for correct invoicing and compliance with international shipping standards.
- In pharmaceutical packaging, EMFR ensures precise weighing of blister packs and vials, supporting regulatory compliance while maintaining high throughput.
- In food production, EMFR enables consistent portioning and packaging checks even in high-speed environments.
By combining speed with accuracy, EMFR Weigh Cells prove their value wherever every gram—and every second—matters.
