Increasing product diversity presents new challenges for quality assurance. Especially in the plant-based segment, where product formats range from lightweight superfoods to large-volume packaged goods, ensuring consistent inspection performance across all formats is critical. SanoVita, a pioneer in plant-based nutrition in Romania, addresses this challenge with a clear focus on food safety and technological innovation. By integrating advanced X-ray inspection systems from Wipotec into its production lines, the company ensures reliable foreign body detection – regardless of product size or packaging format.

A trusted brand in plant-based nutrition

Founded in 1995, SanoVita has established itself as a key player in the Romanian market for vegetarian and plant-based foods. The company’s portfolio spans a wide range of products, including breakfast cereals, expanded rice and wheat cakes, superfoods, dried fruits and nuts, tofu, and vegan spreads.

Many of these products are developed in collaboration with academic institutions and recognized for their nutritional value and originality. With nationwide distribution across retail, specialty stores and online channels, SanoVita operates in a highly dynamic and quality-driven market.

As production volumes and throughput continue to grow, maintaining high standards in inspection speed, system uptime and detection reliability becomes essential.

The challenge: reliable detection across all product sizes

SanoVita’s production lines process a wide variety of packaging formats – from 100 g superfood packs to 1,000 g cornflake bags. Ensuring consistent foreign body detection across this spectrum without interrupting production flow posed a significant challenge.

The solution required:

  • Reliable detection performance across varying product densities and sizes
  • Seamless integration into existing production lines
  • High throughput without compromising accuracy
  • Flexible handling of different packaging formats

The solution: SC 3000 X-ray inspection systems

To meet these requirements, SanoVita implemented two SC 3000 X-ray systems from Wipotec, each integrated into separate production lines.

A key feature of the system design is the vertical offset infeed and outfeed, combined with shortened radiation protection curtains. This configuration allows seamless integration into the available production space while ensuring full compliance with radiation safety standards.

The systems are capable of detecting a wide range of foreign bodies, including metal, glass and stone – ensuring that only safe products proceed further in the process.

“We needed a system that could check very different product formats. With the SC 3000 X-ray system, we can now inspect both large and small packaging without interrupting the production flow or compromising on accuracy,”
explains Ovidiu Samson, Deputy Operational Director at SanoVita.

Intelligent rejection for multiple product formats

A central element of the solution is the integrated rejection unit, which combines a pusher mechanism with air blast nozzles. This enables reliable, format-specific removal of contaminated products across different packaging types.

The combination of these technologies ensures:

  • Precise rejection of contaminated items
  • Minimal disruption to the production flow
  • Adaptability to varying product sizes and weights

This flexibility is essential for maintaining efficiency in a production environment characterized by frequent product changes.

Seamless integration and strong local support

The successful implementation of the SC 3000 systems was supported by close collaboration between Wipotec and its local partner, Imark Sistem.

Imark Sistem managed the complete system installation and continues to provide ongoing technical service and support. Their in-depth understanding of local production requirements, combined with fast on-site availability, ensured a smooth integration process and reliable long-term operation.

“The Wipotec systems were installed smoothly and integrated perfectly into our existing lines. The installation team was highly professional and supportive throughout the process.”

Enabling growth through scalable inspection technology

SanoVita continues to expand its product portfolio and production capacity. In this context, scalable and adaptable inspection systems play a crucial role in supporting future growth.

The decision for Wipotec was based on several key factors:

  • High detection performance across all product formats
  • Flexibility in handling diverse packaging types
  • Compact system design
  • Integration of intelligent rejection mechanisms

“The X-ray systems help us guarantee product safety and protect our brand – from light to heavy bags.”

Flexible inspection for a dynamic product landscape

The SanoVita case demonstrates how modern X-ray inspection systems can ensure consistent food safety across highly diverse product portfolios.

By combining flexible system design, reliable detection performance and intelligent rejection mechanisms, the SC 3000 enables seamless inspection from small packs to large bags within a single production environment.

For manufacturers operating in dynamic markets, such solutions are not only essential for compliance – they form the foundation for sustainable growth, operational efficiency and long-term brand protection.
